Doug regularly serves as general counsel to technology companies and personal general counsel to entrepreneurs, CEOs and wealthy families. Doug has served as General Counsel and member of the executive teams of companies including: LinkedIn (where he was the company’s lawyer when it was founded and served as GC in 2007 and 2008); ememories (one of the first online photo-sharing companies); and Tornado Development, a unified messaging software company backed by Intel Capital and GE Capital.
Doug Mandell is the managing partner of the Mandell Law Group, PC, a boutique law firm based in San Francisco which specializes in general counsel services, corporate and technology transactions, private clients services (advising ultra-high net-worth individuals and families as their “personal general counsel”) and employment law (advising companies and representing founders and C-level executives). Prior to founding MLG, Doug was an attorney with the international law firm Orrick, Herrick & Sutcliffe.
Doug has been selected as a Northern California Super Lawyer for the past five years. Super Lawyers identifies the top 5 percent of attorneys in Northern California, as chosen by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politics. Doug was one of the youngest lawyers in Northern California ever selected for this honor. Doug has also been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell as an AV® rated attorney, the highest rating available.
Doug is a frequent speaker and consultant to lawyers, law firms, entrepreneurs and other professionals on social networking and professional brand management.
Doug is also active in the international entrepreneurial community as a member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) and as a mentor and panelist with Endeavor Global. Doug served on the Board of the San Francisco Chapter of EO for over four years and was Chair of the Governance Committee for EO Global (the international governing body of EO). Doug has attended EO conferences in Tokyo; Las Vegas; Barcelona; Singapore; Amsterdam; Marrakesh and Montreal. Doug was also the Keynote Speaker at the first EO China Conference on Sanya Island, China. Doug has served as a panelist to select Endeavor Entrepreneurs at the Endeavor Global International Selection Panels in Punte Del Este, Uruguay in 2011 and in Miami, FL in 2012.
Doug is an investor, advisor and counsel working with start-ups and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Doug is a founding partner at Originate, a Value Added Venture firm which builds software for start-ups and invests in them. Doug also works with consumer internet, software and clean-tech companies as a business advisor and investor, including: NewAer (location-based services platform); ThreadSuite (enterprise software in the fashion space); Premise Data Corporation (big data); SideCar (ride-sharing technology); Solar Mosaic (creating a market to invest in solar projects); and Motiv Power Systems (electric trucks).
Doug received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis and studied International Relations at the London School of Economics. He received his law degree with honors from Tulane Law School.
